A single cup sits there on the table, still steaming from the hot water that was poured before you noticed it. But, you’re all alone, and whoever put it there must have been quick. The paper tag sports a single, unblinking eye, almost as if they’re still there with you. What if they left it for you? You like that idea, but could be wrong. Regardless, you’re going to feel some way about it, so you might as well make a choice.
Upright
All action comes from initial motivation, no matter how deep or trivial, and even that is up for debate from person to person. How you feel may not justify the misunderstanding if you go ahead and take a drink, and your honesty may not placate whoever comes looking for it, but you’ll no longer be thirsty. Then again, who else is there right now, anyway? You decide there’s a plausible excuse to assume it’s your moment.
Reversed
The room stays quiet. Whoever supplied your hot beverage hasn’t returned. Idly, in waiting, you wonder if your logic was sound. Not so much in self-doubt, but now you’re not sure if was all just because you were thirsty, or there was a logical progression. Either way, you’ve drank it and are confident in apology if necessary, with whatever intuition you’ve run with. But now – are you genuinely confident, you wonder, or is it easier to just brush your feelings aside?
