Your first thought was that you woke up early. But, the ceiling isn’t right. Not wrong, but not yours. Your head flips from side to side, and this isn’t even your bedroom. The big metal bed is covered in a quilt, and sunlight streams in through the open window, where it looks like trees and maybe even a garden outside. Hands to your sides, you push your way up just as the what you presume is the doorway, creaks lightly.
Upright
An upright figure in a grey knit robe stands there – where their face would be, there’s a bright ball of warm yellow light instead. The golden streams overtake even the morning light from the windows, snaking around the foot board and other details of the furniture. Something exciting is about to happen – but you have to get out of bed first. There’s so much potential to the day, and whoever this is, is brimming with life to tell you all about it, however silent the physical form may be.
Reversed
What day is it? That must be something you’ve forgotten. At the thought, other memories intrude – and suddenly, you feel very small sitting in that bed. So much younger, full of so much potential. The feeling is a bit frightening, so many things at once joining the glowing streams from the visitor. Or the homeowner? It’s all so much. Still looking forward to what the day has in store, you’re not so sure anymore, and then your optimism soars, and then a pang of fear gnaws in your chest. The light can blind just as well as the dark, so it seems.
