Late summer breeze lifts the door to the tent, just enough for sounds of the outside world to come with it. Hard packed dirt with remnants of grass and weeds under your feet, the striped canopy above your head, and not much else, your breather is over. Time to make a choice, and test your luck.
Upright
There’s no sense in staying in here forever. It served its purpose, and it’s time to get back out there. We can make no mistakes, and still lose, but the first step attracts the potential for getting what we want, and perhaps really need. Laughter and sounds of other attractions build upon each other, encouraging you to step back out. Nothing is likely to happen unless you make something happen first.
Reversed
Then again, there was a reason you were in here to begin with. It’s so much, all the time, and the people you came with aren’t quite as fun to be around as they think. But they’re still here, probably looking for you, probably still blissfully unaware of why – but you’ll go back out, into the bright sun, bright colors, people who are used to you saying yes. Things will stay the same. But what if they didn’t? Maybe it would be hard, at first, and then it would get better. So many “maybe’s,” and yet your feet don’t move. The center beam begins to creak, and it’s getting louder…
